Scientific Advisory Board

The scientific advisory board will support and advise the Fund Management in the selection process of new innovative sustainable initiatives. The scientific advisory board consists of specialists in the field of agro, food & health and will be supported by others on a case by case basis.

  • Ivonne Rietjens, chairman
    Ivonne Rietjens graduated in molecular sciences at Wageningen University (Life Sciences University of the Netherlands) and held post doc positions at RIVM and NIH in Bethesda (USA). She is author of over 230 scientific articles, Professor in Toxicology at the Wageningen University and promoter of 30 PhD students. Her focus is on a.o. risk-benefit evaluation of novel food (& ingredients), development of gene-reporter assays for the detection of negative and/or positive health effects and on matrix factors influencing health effects exerted by botanical ingredients. Ivonne Rietjens is member of various national and international advisory committees including a.o. the National Health Council (the Netherlands), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the Expert Panel of the Flavor & Extract Manufacturers Association (FEMA, USA) and the Senate commission on Food Safety of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, Germany).
  • Albert Zwijgers, member
    Albert Zwijgers graduated in food technology at Wageningen University (Life Sciences University of the Netherlands) and started his career at Gist Brocades where he held various leading positions. Furthermore he worked for over five years at DMV International in Veghel as R&D manager and as technical marketing manager. After that he worked for Quest International in Naarden and went to Unilever for which he worked for over 9 years as head of the Global Technology Centre Health and Wellness. Since 3 years he is senior Food Technologist Open Innovation at Unilever with a number of related activities like: Knowledge broker Food & Health of the Food and Nutrition Delta, professor Innovation in Foods at HAS Den Bosch and Technical Expert Food & Nutrition of Eurostars.
  • Wout van Everdingen, member
    Wout van Everdingen has a broad experience in business development and is recently retired. For the last 30 years he worked for Akzo Nobel in various positions, such as Coordinator worldwide R&D activities for Organon Teknika, the Diagnostics Group of Akzo Nobel's Pharmaceutical Division, Regulatory Affairs and Business Development & Licensing. When he held the position of Director Business Development Wout van Everdingen has been responsible for a large number of deals made with practically almost all global acting pharmaceutical and diagnostics companies.
