Fund management

Fund management of the Brabant Life Sciences Seed Fund is a team of entrepreneurs & experienced investors.

The team consists of:

  • Jan van der Hoeven, responsible for acquisitions & exits
    Jan van der Hoeven graduated (cum laude) at Wageningen University (Life Sciences University of the Netherlands) and specialized in water quality, water treatment and toxicology. For 6 years he worked as a scientist at Wageningen University with emphasis on the relation of food and cancer. He has over 30 scientific publications and has been awarded as European Scientist (EEMS Young Scientist Award) in 1985. In 1983 he founded in close cooperation with two other persons, an international operating CRO in the field of safety and environmental research for which he became fully responsible in 1988. In 2003 he received the price for entrepreneurship from Wageningen University. From 1988 onwards Jan van der Hoeven is active with its own portfolio of numerous life sciences companies in which he plays an active role like member of investment committee or member of the supervisory board. He is also ambassador of the Wageningen University.
  • Wim Jongen, responsible for technology assessment & intellectual properties
    Wim Jongen has a background in toxicology and food science and over 15 years of experience in business development in the life sciences. Before co-founding the BLSF in 2009 he was Director of the Wageningen Business Generator BV (2004-2008). He has held several senior managerial positions at Wageningen UR (1990-2008) and was professor in Food Product Design and Quality Management at Wageningen University (1994-2004). He was member of the scientific council of a multinational in beverages (1997-2003) and acted as advisor to the food industry. He obtained his PhD in Toxicology at Wageningen University (1988). He is author of more than 150 scientific papers and has edited and/or written seven scientific books. Currently Wim is also chairman of the board of directors of Pepscan Holding NV and chairman of the board of directors of a number of Life Sciences companies.

  • Miranda Janssen, responsible for general management & finance
    Graduated at European Secretary Academy, studied public relations and graduated as a Master in Business Administration. She has over 20 years of experience in various jobs in international companies, started the sales & marketing department, responsible for back-office activities and closely involved in merger & acquisition activities. Since 2005 she is responsible for general management and financial activities for a number of life sciences companies. From 2006 onwards she is the managing director of WesterToren Innovation Centre and is responsible for the back-office activities for a number of life sciences companies.


The team will further be supported on legal issues by Toon Lips (former partner of Holland Van Gijzen, Attorneys at law and civil law notaries) who has been involved in several hundreds of (merger & acquisition) deals. For fiscal & accountancy advice we will be supported by DRV in Rotterdam, the Netherlands and Ernst & Young.
